Hard drive question for xp users...

I have two hard drives. My first one is my 80 gig maxtor the second is a 20. I am not recieving any error messages but I cant access my second hard drive. How do I do so? I heard something about having to do something to turn it on but I dont know what to do. Help a bro out... Thanks in advance...

goto start
then right click "my computer" select manage
select disk management

if the drive is listed partition and format it if not you can boot off the winxp cd and partition and format the drive
if you can't figure out that one go to bootdisk.com and download the win 98 bootdisk(if you don't have one laying around) and fdisk the 20 gig drive.after reboot then format the drive using format d: where d: is the 20 gig drive

or manage(as listed above and right click the drive 20 gig and select format

but be aware that using the winxp cd will use ntfs as well as using the manage route above so if you want fat 32 then you will need to use a 98 boot disk

You may need to use the Initialize option in Disk Management before the drive can be formatted. If the disk doesn't even show up then you may need to go to Device Manager and force it to find new hardware.

The WinXP boot CD process will allow a 20GB drive to be formatted with FAT32. The limit is 32GB (both during Setup and in XP itself), but of course a 9x boot disk with fdisk can create larger sizes.
