I took out my main hard drive and put in another to put xp on it. I put the other hard drive in on the secondary channel and when it boots the drive has all the $$$$$$ behind the name. Also in drive manager is shows that it is 6??.?? gigs of space and is not initialized. It is a maxtor and i think i screwed it up. Is there a way that I can recover the data off of the drive???? I need stuff that is on there. PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

when you say "secondary channel", do you mean you're daisy chaining it with your primary hard drive or did you put it on the secondary ide controller, and is it sharing it with another drive?

Try taking out the new drive and putting the old drive back into the primary controller to see if it's reading the drive correctly.

It is on the SECONDARY CHANNEL and set to slave. My setup is:

PRIMARY:
HARD DRIVE1
DVD
SECONDARY
CDRW
HARD DRIVE 2 (the bad drive)

If you boot from a Win9X floppy and run FDISK, what do you see?
Can you see the partition(s) on the drive?
