hard drive problems?

this 2 month old system has been wonderful but theres one problem, soemtimes it doesnt start...
It hangs at start up some times i say 1/4 1/3 of the times i have no idea what it is, ive reformatted serveral times still doing it, and my computer wont let me install sp2 either(if it helps) if anyone could help me out on this one that would be great.

1. What brand of hard drive is it, and is it a Serial ATA one or a Parallel ATA one?

2. What brand & model of power supply do you have?

3. What happens when you attempt to install Service Pack 2, how is it failing?

4. Is the system protected by a router to keep worms and hackers out, since you don't have SP2 yet?

3=It locks up at finish and when i trying manually rebooting then it wont start

4=Yes I am protected by a router (Linksys G) and i have scanned my computer for anything and nothing(on this exact computer rightnow)

If it makes anydiffernce it hangs at the bootup screen(i.e. Windows Xp Pro with the little loader)

Try installing SP2 while the system is running in Safe Mode. To do this, you'll need to download the whole SP2 installation file and save it to your hard drive. Also, make sure your motherboard's EZ Plug is hooked up. BTW you're not going to use that el-cheapo PSU to power SLI + RAID0, are you?

well after a bad install of sp2 in safe mode, again and a fresh install of windows :frown: and about of 2 hours of losing my sanity i figured it out.

1. install it before you install any driver...any

2. make sure your logged into admin account

3. do it in safe mode!

4. always make sure your eating ramen noddles, always

so im waitng for my tape backup run everything back on my computer while im at school
and bootup problem has been fixed so thanks all an all for the help i appriacte it!
