Hard Drive problems. Please help.

It is a western digital 60gb 5400rpm drive. I tried to shut down win2k because it was lagging really bad and look like frozen. The saving setting/shutting down took forever (5-10 min). I ended up resetting the computer. After boot up, the drive is gone. My maxtor ata66 controller would not detect it. There is nothing in windows explorer and administrative tools->computer management.

someone help. i do not want to lose the data.

check the bios. if it is not in there then its dead. sorry.

I assume its a back up drive? Does it have power? Can you hear it spin up? If so, does it make any abnormal sounds when it does? Can you see it in DOS? Using F-Disk? Have you tried unplugging it then plugging it back it. (Thats a long LONG shot, maybe loose conneciton?)
Chances are though, better start looking for some data recovery software.

SpinRite may help you revive that drive. Its a small dos based program that can do wonders for failing drives.
