Hard drive problem

My fujitsu 2.5GB hard drive gives me junk when I boot up (into dos mode). The top part of the screen is full of funny characters and at the bottom it says windows 98. I had Windows NT and Windows 2000 (dual boot) on the drive before I tried to format it.

I had problems getting win98 to see the drive and had to use fdisk to re-partition it. I presume the different file systems caused the problem and I'm looking for a way to format it properly. I have tried the lowformat utility from award and it didn't help either.

Please help.

Run Fdisk from a win98se boot disk. Remove ALL partitions.

Then create a new partition for the whole drive (I assume you're just going to run 98).

Format it and install 98. Should be fine.

Also, make sure BIOS settings are correct and/or try "auto-detect" in BIOS.

Good Luck...let us know how this works out!

One thing I realized later was that the drive did work on other machines and was only giving problems on that specific machine. I eventually did managed to get the drive to work. The strangest thing of all is that it wasn't the hard drive that was causing the problem but the graphics card of all things.

Thanks for your help.
