Hard Drive Problem

My 7200.10 320GB is my primary drive and has my windows partition on it. Every time I turn it on and it starts the loading process for windows it makes a grinding/static sound. It started after leaving it off for about 6 days. About 1 in 30 times I can turn it on and get in windows and no noise or any stability problems. The other times after about a minute of it loading with a weird black screen it gives a corrupt system file error.

I never had any problems before and I have new information on that drive. I am probably going to start the warranty process with Seagate in a few days but if anyone has any ideas or how to get the information off of it or knows what caused it would be nice. I haven't tried to put the windows cd in and try a repair yet but I probably will and see what I can get form that but the noise is really not normal.

Looks like you are likely to use Seagate's warranty replacement service. What you are hearing is probably the beginning signs of surface scrape. I would pull the data out asap and put them in another drive if I were you if the data is important.
