Hard Drive problem...

so i went to frys (chicagoland), and they had a warm deal on a seagate 160gig HD for 55 bucks after rebates.

i bought it.

i installed it correctly. i set the jumpers fine, i set it to slave, blah blah.

when i went to windows though, it doesnt show up in windows explorer. i run speedfan, and it tells me its there, but i notice the performance and fitness bars are lower than my existing HD, which is a western digital 120gig.

any ideas? im stumped.

You didn't say what motherboard or whether it's PATA or SATA, so here's a first shot in the dark:

Go into Control Panel > (Performance & Maintenance, for WinXP) > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Start the Computer Management console and go down the tree to Disk Management. Is your drive there? If so, right-click the white bar that represents its capacity, and you can create partitions/volumes and then right-click them to format them 🙂

If not, more system info please 🙂

Right-Click on My Computer and click on Manage. On the left pane of the windows that opens, you should see somthing that says Disk Management. Click on it. On the top-right pane you'll see your hard drives; on the lower-right you'll see diagrams illustrating your drive partitions. If you see your new drive on the top pane, right-click on it and tell it to create a new partition. You'll go through a wizard that should help you do that and format your new drive so you can use it.

EDIT: Just do what MechBgon said.

Do what the other two said and check if you see anything under Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Disk Drives.

Post more specific info if not working. Goodluck.
