Hard drive problem

I recently got a new Epox EP-8KRA2+ motherboard (2 IDE + 2 IDE RAID) and a second WD120JB hard drive for my system. I tried setting the system up like this:
IDE1: DVD
IDE2: CD-RW
IDE3: Boot drive
IDE4: Second hard drive

In this configuration, however, all I get is:
Boot from CD...
Boot from CD...

and then the system hangs. I've tried switching the two hard drives around with no success. The only way I can boot with both drives is to swap a hard drive with an optical drive, but then the optical drive doesn't work on the RAID controller.

Does anyone have an idea of what's wrong? Any help you can give would be much appreciated!

Have you changed the boot sequence in the bios? because you'll need to do that.

Right now the boot sequence in the main BIOS is:
CD-ROM
Floppy
Hard Drive

and the drive on IDE3 is selected as the boot disk in the RAID Bios.

Quick clarification. Do youve them hooked up like this?

IDE 1
primary: DVD
secondary: CD-RW
IDE 2
primary: Boot drive
secondary: Second hard drive

or

IDE1
primary DVD
IDE2
primary CD-RW
IDE3
primary Boot drive
IDE4
primary Second hard drive

If it is the latter, you are probably using an add on controller (built into your mobo) for the IDE3 and IDE4 channels. If this is the case, your extra controller may not be bootable or you will have to change the boot order in you BIOS to boot off of the controller. If it is the first situation, then you should just change the boot order.

However, I would suggest this config to make your life easier.

IDE 1
primary: Boot drive
secondary: Second hard drive
IDE 2
primary: DVD
secondary: CD-RW

Since you only have a total of four drives you don't need to use the RAID (or JBOD) controller.

Are you attempting a RAID setup? Tr setting your boot sequence with the hard disk as the first boot device .
