Hard drive performance

I currently have a Maxtor 20 GB at 5400 RPM. My question is, how much better would the performance be if I put a 7200 RPM drive in it, and where (i.e. gaming, etc.) would I notice the performance increase?

Loading times will change, and if you don't have much memory so its accessing the hard drive alot then yeah.

How fast it turns is how fast you can get data off of the drive and the hard drive is the biggest speed bottleneck, so a faster drive (higher rpm) will improve your computing experience period.

Well, I have 512 MB DDR memory so is that enough to where it's not acessing the hard drive too much? I really want to wait until I fill this HD up before I get another one, but if it will greatly improve performance I'll go ahead and get a faster one.

You definitely need a 7200RPM drive :)

performance will go way up (I know when I was on a 5400RPM drive it was so damn sluggish, then I got a 7200RPM one and boom :))

Just get one, don't wait.

The hard drive is the slowest thing on a PC... so I suggest upgrading it...

this depends a lot on the rest of your rig but you WILL notice a difference... faster loading... no more HD lag...this kinda stuff

its well worth it IMO

Well, here's some of my specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
Asus AV333
PNY Geforce4 Ti4400
512 MB DDR RAM
Windows 2000

Well then how much would say a good 40 GB 7200 RPM cost with all the cables and everything I need? Preferably an established brand like Maxtor or IBM.
