Hard drive performance

My hard drive's read speeds are around 5MB/sec. It's 7200 rpm and ATA-100. I performed IBM's software drive test and everything checks out. It's burst speeds are the same which suggests something is not set correctly. I'm not sure what to change, in bios or windows. Any help would be apreciated:)

You probably know about this already, but worth a shot.
Is your DMA box checked?
If not, go to START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > DEVICE MANAGER > HARD DISKS (I think, you'll be able to figure it out) > select your harddrive, and look in the properties... check the DMA box...
