hard drive performance comparison?

I'm looking into buying some hard drive(s) and couldn't decide what would end up being the better deal performance-wise...

WD 5400 rpm 60 gig IDE
vs
2 Maxtor 7200 rpm 30 gig's using RAID

I'm running an athlon 1.2 gig on a MST KT7-R (I think) and bout 384 meg ram and win2k pro...any ideas or comments on which one would be the better setup? I'd like to run the array seen as one large disk...

erm...any explanations possible on this too? I've never actually set up raid 😀


And is it possible to have the raid set up + an IDE drive (my old 24 gig)?
