Hard drive partition help

So I'm trying to install Linux on the same hard disk that has my Windows install. I need to create a new partition (the hard disk is not partitioned at this point at all).

The HDD is 160gb with 105 free. I right click My Computer -> Manage. In Disk Management I right click the disk, select Shrink Volume... and it tells me there is only 2,730MB available shrink space. I want to shrink back about 30gb. Any ideas why it only gives me 2.7gb space to shrink into? There is a note at the bottom of the dialog that says
Size of available shrink space can be restricted is snapshots or pagefiles are enabled on the volume

Any ideas? TIA.

Why don't you use gparted? Most all distros use that to repartition the HD.

In either case, make sure you have a backup made first.
