Hard Drive not Detected!!!!

I was performing some routine maintenance on my PC yesterday and I did the following:

Removed fan from heatsink and cleaned it out, then screwed it back onto heatsink.

Removed video card from AGP slot and cleaned it then reset it back in the AGP slot.

Put the case back on, booted up, got to the BIOS loading screen and my Hard drive is not detected. It then goes to the insert boot disk error.

I've used this machine for a year without changing the cables, jumpers, or even touching the hard drive.. I have checked all connections and they are as good as can be, jumpers are likewise.. In the bios the hard drive is not detected at all, and when I insert my WinXP boot disk it does not find a drive either...

what's the problem and how do i fix it?

You may have bumped one of your IDE cables a bit. Open your case back up, remove the cable ends of the IDE cable, then re-seat them. Try booting your system again.

This situation has happened to me before. The ATA-66/100 cables seem to be a bit picky. You have to have them seated properly, or the hard drive will not be recognized.

Just take the CMOS battery out and put it back in?

Unplug your computer, pull the battery , wait a min, hold the power button in for a sencond , let it out and then put the battery back in.

i did the reset jumpers, or at least i think i did... i moved the jumper to right and left there for a couple of seconds and then moved back, this had no result..

Can you get into the BIOS set-up ?
If you have not tried then try and see if your HD is being detectected by the BIOS.

BTW, to get into the BIOS just hold down the delete key and turn on the power.

If you still are having trouble then I recommend that you read the mobo manual, there is alot in it that will help you figure out the problem, if you do not have a manual then here it is, MANUAL

You probably damaged something while dinking around in your case, it does not take much to destroy a motherboard, one tiny static discharge to the right component and BLAM! , your out $blank amount of dollars$$.

Then, go for 48 million times and see what happens. :Q

Seriously, the recommendation of trying a new cable is a good idea. Also, you might try connecting your hard drive to the other controller on your motherboard. The controller that it currently resides on could be fried. Also, you might want to try connecting a different power connector to your hard drive. I've had problems with some of my connectors before.
