Hard Drive Noises

Sounds like the head may be touching the platter or something. I would seriously consider sending it in for an RMA, but unless you experience data loss or corruption I SUPPOSE you should be OK.

Edit: Also, what HDD is it. If it is a soft "grinding" noise, and it is a Seagate drive then it is the regular diagnostic check. This check only occurs when the drive has been idle for IIRC 30 secs.

Mine is a Seagate. After loading my user settings it will slow down and I will hear that noise for about a second. Some games like Oblivion ill hear it in too.

Get the Seatools diagnostic software from Seagate's site and test it.
