hoov,
most of the reviews and benchmarks have concluded that the improvement
is less than 5 percent over hooking that drive up to a 66 port.
but........5 percent is 5 percent and we want all we can get
having said that the new epox board the 8kta2?? has ultra 100 support
the asus a7v has ultra 100 support
Also, the predecessor to the MSI k7tpro2 (the board I'm raising all the ruckus over)
is the k7t pro which now comes in a little known version listed as the k7t pro100
which means it comes bundled with a promise ata100 controller card
that uses the bios on the motherboard for control.
This may indeed be a nice option for even though it takes up a slot, it frees
up the 66 port on the board for other things and the promise has two ports
i believe supporting a total of 4 drives.
It doesn't have the multiplier adjustments like the pro2 but if you're
not going to overclock your chip, that won't deter u
This is the board I went ahead and ordered from cdrexpress
and the way I figure it is in a few weeks I'll probably go
for the k7t pro2/100 which should be out next month sometime.
I really wanted to get the pro2 and add a promise controller to it,
but so far there are only claims and no hard proof that people
are actually buying the board from the one and single
only vendor in the US who was blessed enough to be offered
them to sell 3 weeks before the release........and no
i'm not a disgruntled vendor
hehe
