Hard Drive Management software

Is there a good multipurpose Hard Drive management software that I can use to mount/unmount hard drives, perform diagnostics, etc?

Need something that will work with USB drives, freeware/open-source preferably.

Yea, I'm not sure what you want to do that you can't with what's built-in to Windows. Although you won't find anything to read the SMART data from USB drives because the USB protocols don't do SMART, you have to use SATA, PATA or Firewire if you want that.
