the only option i have is to write signature on a secondary (4gb)drive under win2k pro....

this is the first time i am running into this problem..... any info on what i need to get the os to allocate a drive letter so i can see what (if anything) is on the drive......or or what i need to do so i can just use the drive without seeing what i am erasing (again, if anything)

Go into control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management.
You should be able to see exactly how the space is allocated on that disk and re-partition/format as necessary.
Remember that until there's a valid partition on the drive, you won't be able to do anything with it.

i can see the drive in comp management (drive1 unknown).....the only option when i right click on it to try and allocate a drive letter or partion it is to write signature...when i select the option of write signature, my comp busies itself for a second and then goes back to normal.
