Hard Drive Limitation size

My dad just put a new 60GB hard drive in his computer. The bios picks it up fine at the right size, yet windows only show it as a 23GB drive.

To make things worse, scandisk & diskdoctor will not run.

Any ideas? The motherboard is a new ASUS A7A266 and the HDD is a WD 60GB.

Thanks

what os and file structure?

any partitions?

fat 16 limits hdd size if running nt4

fat 32 should be fine win 95, 98

95, 98 can't read ntfs or fat 16

2000 formats fat 16 for smaller drives unless you tell it to format fat 32

"95, 98 can't read ntfs or fat 16"

95 can read fat16 100% no problem. And I suspect the same of Win98 although I've never done it.

Check with FDISK that it shows up as a 60GB hard drive (it should probably say something like 58.5GB or so).

The A7A266 has no problems with drives as large as 60GB.
