Hard Drive Light problem...

I have an Asus A7M266 mobo and when I connect the hard drive LED to where it's supposed to go on the mobo, it stays on all the time. I've tried swapping it around (didn't work) and used other suggested pins that might possibly work...

WHY is it doing this?

I have my hard drives set as master and slave, so I doubt that's the problem.. it used to work fine when I had my promise ata/100 card in there, but I don't want to have to use that anymore just to make my hard drive light blink..

any suggestions?

Try it with nothing plugged into the IDE bus. Try it with only one IDE drive at a time. This happens as soon as you power up the pc, right? I'd look in the BIOS. Maybe set BIOS to defaults.

you SURE it's on the right pin?
the last bunch of Asus boards have had the IDE_LED put aside from the rest of the jumpers on it's own little 2 pin block off by itself.

fairly confusing the first time i saw this.

well I'll look more tomorrow, I'm gonna go to bed now because I've been working on what I thought was a dying hard drive that ended up being a burner set on the wrong dma setting and a nic card that was flaking out..

damn this week has sucked and it has only just began.

Well I read the damn install guide and it says "message LED" and I'm assuming that's for the hard drive... if not then I'm stupid.

You were right... except they forgot to LABEL the fricken 2 pins... I tried and tried different ones on the mobo till I finally got them to work... lol

After a couple of cuss words it finally worked! 🙂

Thanks for giving me enough hope to finally fix the problem 🙂
