I use a couple programs that use SMART to monitor my drives. Speedfan says one of my hdds is about to fail. HDDLife says it's in great shape. Which one do I trust? It's not a big deal if it fails because it's still under warranty and I've moved everything off of it. So should I try another program or just try to RMA it?

your hard drive's manufacturer very likely offers a diagnostic utility on their webpage for your drive. Download it, run both the short and long versions of the tests, and see what they say.

good luck

So I've tried all of the hard drive testing utilities I could find. They all say something different. So I'm thinking they are useless and my hdds are just fine.

I've NEVER had any SMART errors from any hard drive. Most just fail outright. If you are getting SMART errors, I suggest taking advantage of that knowledge and doing a "planned" replacement at your convenience, rather than waiting until the drive fails. As we all know, the drive failure will happen at the worst, most inconvenient time possible.

Even "malfunctioning" drives will often pass diagnostics programs. If you are actually seeing errors reported by diagnostics programs, even though not by all of them, I'd guess there's a problem.....
