well in my dads old laptop the harddrive is makeing more and more strange noises and has trouble booting sometimes. as of right now all i need to do is recover 1 file about 1meg roughly (which is sooooooo important for his work - nuthing else matters) right now i booted it off a Windows 98 startup disk and located the file i need in DOS. now how do i copy this file to a floppy (it has been soo long) or are there any other methods of getting this file off without sending it to drive savers ??

thanks soo much .. now i need to pound into my dad's brain BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP and BACKUP !!!!!!!!!

C:\yourdirectory copy file.*** a:\
From the prompt where it is. Copy the name of file.extension a:\.
Hope it helps.

***confirmed *** That'll do it.

Thank you for being intelligent enough to back up before the drive dies, instead of bringing one to me that won't even be recognized and expect me to pull a 100% recovery out of my ass.

you can do "dir /w /p" that will show it "/w - wide" and "/p - page". after each page you hit the space bar or any key to go to the next page.
