I was working on a computer when all of a sudden the computer restarted, and I got a message saying "PLEAse insert boot device" or something. I went to the bios setup to make sure that my hardrive is detected and that it's my boot device. MY motherboard did indeed detect my hardrive correctly. And the red button indicating harddrive activity was working. I decided to format my harddrive, but the drive c: could not be found by DOS. I took out the hardrive and inserted it into my other computer (newer one) but the harddrive still could not be detected neither by DOS nor by Windows, but motherboard did detect it. The harddrive also doesnt seem to have any noise coming from it. I checked the harddrive and none of the pins were bent or anything. I've been using that harddrive for 3 years, maybe the age screwed it over..... . PLease tell me what I should do. THanx.

Try this. Get another hard drive and put it in as master by itself. Format and FDISK it. Change it to slave plug the other drive in and hold it in your right hand and give it a really hard flick with the circuit board toward you and flick in a clockwise direction this may get the drive motor to start, try it a couple of times if that does not work rap it right in the middle with a large wooden screwdriver handle. If it get going copy all your important stuff over to the other drive because it will probably never start again. This works about 20%of the time.
Good Luck

You really should try to fdisk the drive! and then format it, and see if it's found now

Sounds like it's dead if you booted up with a virus-free DOS diskette can't format it. Is is still under warranty? If not, you can take the top cover off and make yourself an attractive, high-tech paperweight.
