hard drive installation problems

okay i have an abit kt7-raid, kt133 chipset motherboard...i just bought an 80 gig maxtor hard drive and cannot get windows to indentify it when i click on my computer.

i put it on my primary raid channel....i used an ata100 cable so that souldn't be the problem....my raid bios utilty recognizes it fine at boot up but i can't seem to get into it in windows. please help?

Did you format the drive yet? or should that not matter?

I assume you have also partitioned and formatted the new drive?

how do i partition and format if i can't access it?

There's utilities. The hard drive should have come with an install disk, unless it was bought bare drive only. If it was bought bare drive only, I recommend Partition Magic 6.0 to format and partition.

Go to maxtors website and download maxblast, its a util that partitions a new hd and formats it.

i am such a deush bag....this worked like a charm. guess i did in fact forget to format... lol.
