Hello All? I don?t know how I get myself in these predicaments. A friend at work claims his HD crashed so he wanted me to look at it. Well sure enough I got it home and the drive took a dump. I put a 20 gig 5400 Maxtor I had laying around the house in it and it works fine, the problem is my friend bought a 40 gig 7200 western digital and I put it in and the rig doesn?t even boot. I updated the bios and still nothing. I also tried every combination on the HD jumpers, and the cables are all hooked up right. The rig is a ?Monorail? computer, not even in business anymore, but still has drivers available on their web site. My question is if I put a controller card in, does it have it?s own bios, and will it see the 40 gig, or do I need to trade the 40 gig for a 20 gig 7200?

Also per my friend, this piece of crap is only 2 years old

thanks
dave

If your question is will a controller card let you recognize the whole 40G the answer is yes. I have done this many times on old systems that wont recognize over 8.4G in the bios.

Hope this helps:)

that happaned to me once... I think I setted the harddrive to report only 32Gb and it worked (lost 8Gb on the process but the computer was working) there was a jumper on the harddrive that setted it.

It was a long time ago, I really don't remeber the specs.. it might have been a Seagate Barracuda, but I'm not sure.

good luck.
