Well its the first time im actually working on my pc by myself. I have a 200 gig western digital serial ata hd on my pc right now, and I want to put it in my new system. Do I have to use any special sofware to format this drive?. I heard I should format it so it has zeros on it by using some software or somthing but I dont know what that means

your hd should have came with some software (whether its on floppy or cd... i dunno what they use these days). that software will allow u to low level format ur drive.

You running WinXP? Just boot off WinXP, and load the drivers for your SATA drive then let windows format the puppy. You'll have to press F6 or something to load the drivers. The drive should have come with a floppy for that most likely.

The drive should have come with a cd "Data Lifeguard Tools". You can also download this at WD's site. Depending on how old your Win cd is, it may not recognize all of the drive on its own until updated. You do not need to write zeros to it.
