There are no functionality problems i wud just rather not have the beep

please help if u can

You might want to download Hitachi/IBM hard drive software troubleshooting to run a test.

Try running a scan disk too to determine bad sectors.

Good luck.

How often does it do this? I have a 120GXP 60GB IBM hard drive, and maybe every few days it does this weird little "beep" - not really a beep, sort of like what a really big gnat would sound like, with a bit of a bonk/click sound. The system seems unaffected by this, and the drive's SMART data reports that it's in perfect health, so I'm assuming that's normal. But I don't know how often it does it on your PC...

There is an firmware update for this drive to eliminate the click of death. It programs a random movement of the heads to prevent lube from wiping off the patter. Here's the whole story-

First you will need a firmware identification utility
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&q=DTLA&uid=psg1MIGR-44195
to determine the required version. Note that it will only detect drives on the motherboard IDE channels. After running this tool, you will have a log file stating the URL to get the required updater.
