Hard Drive Going Bad?

My brother started having random lockups recently where he'd have to hard reset. When the PC would go through POST right after the hard reset it would say something about no boot device found. I had him hit the delete key to enter setup and see if the hard drive was still being seen in the BIOS which it was. After a few more hard resets the PC was able to boot back into windows.
He brought it to me to see if I could fix the problem. So far I have ran HD Tune surface scan which found no bad sectors. The health tab in HD Tune gives a warning about ultra dma CRC error count 4714. It suggests to replace the hard drive cable..I will have to wait till tomorrow to buy a new cable but I doubt the cable is the problem.
Is it likely the controller on the motherboard is bad? or do you think the hard drive is going bad?
Are there any tests I can do to isolate the problem?

The PC is about 2 months old built using this Newegg Combo.

Thanks

I changed the cable and moved to a different SATA port and so far so good. haven't had any freeze ups it a couple hours. Keeping fingers crossed.

Those mobo reviews don't leave a person with a warm and fuzzy feeling. I hope it was just a bad cable.
