just a quickie question

and actually a quite suprising one for me

i sent a 40 gig IBM back to hitachi and low and behold

12 days later a nice 7200 rpm 60 gig shows up at my door

at this point i realize i have never had a brand spanking new HARD-DRIVE

ive been playing with these things for years but always kinda new stuff

do i have to format this drive, i ll be putting winblows 2000 pro in a brand new

n-f2 rig,

Thanks a bunch

Dave

In windows you have to goto control panel->admin tools-> Computer management

from there goto disk management which is under storage.
Select your new 60GB drive in the lower right. It should be unpartitioned space.
right click and select format.

Congrats! It sounds like you'll be performing a clean install, so just boot from the Win 2K CD. You will have the option to partition and format the new drive.

John's exactly right. Boot from the Windows 2000 CD, and it will ask you where to install, and you can then have it format and/or partition the new drive.
