hard drive firmware for maxtor

Why would you want to download new firmware for your hdd? Are you having trouble with the drive? If so, maybe we can help...

yeah I am having problem. It's being indentified right in the bios but I can't format it. i ran powermax and here is the rusult.
Model : MAXTOR 40K040H2
Firmware: A08.1500
Cylinders:77578
Head: 16
SPT: 63
Maximum LBA: 78198750

It passed installation confirmation
Failed inBasic quick test: Error code 672S57 (SMART sef test) Fail
Failed advanced test: Error code 672R03 (Read verify command failure)

for Both error code prescribed action on MAXTOR website is "Replace drive". But before doing that i just wanted to if I can do anyhting like firmwire upgrade to repair this rather than RMA it. Thanks in advance. However it et me perform low level formatting using power max.

I'm not sure that one can upgrade a hdds firmware for the manufacturers tend not to release the firmwares to the public!
suggest you just rma the hdd.

Your drive is bad. Have it replaced. A firmware update will not fix the problems you are having.

There is no firmware update available for that drive anyway. Pretty much the only drives that can be flashed are custom built (OEM) SCSI drives manufactured for Compaq, HP, etc., for use in servers and the updates are only available through the system manufacturer.
