Hard Drive Failure?

Hi. I just want to ask what seems to be the problem with my computer if it has this kind of symptoms:

- The hard drive makes a scratching sound inside.
- I can still boot the computer but takes a very long time, just like having a low memory capacity.
- Sometimes when the pc boots there's a warning that there's something missing in the WINDOWS files, sometimes there's none.

So what seems to be the problem with my computer? Hard drive Failure or it has been infected with a virus?

Please help me so i can think about it before i buy a new hard drive or reformat my computer.

The scratching sound seems like it could be the ominous "click of death". If you can get the computer to boot, you need to copy everything important to you to a different drive to make sure you don't lose any data. After that, you might try a fresh install to see if it fixes it, but I doubt it.
