This sucks. I was watching tv and noticed that my fish screensaver/computer locked up. Now this is very rare for my computer ( it never ever locked up)

none of my diSk utilitys let me do any thing to the drive. It says RAW in propertys. Is there a utility that will let me recover some or all of the data.

By the way this was a second drive in my system. It HAD all my movies and mp3s' ect... on it.

What can i do to try and save some data?

I think we had a poweer surge yesterday. My Belkin backup UPS was also acting kinda funny (software wise). Im also rebooting now sometimes after a reboot only. Like within the first 20 seconds after a reboot.

Im running windows XP pro . I have the system restore tunded off 🙁

i suspect this to be a bad drive. I thought this drive was getting louder too. maybe it was just me though.

Is that the IBM 75GXP you have in your "Thinkbox"?
If so ... that might be something to think about.

Had the same HD ... failed on me, and when I got it partially back up, 15GB was missing. Run the IBM Fitness Test.

he said his second drive failed, so i guess the MAXTOR died.

but to be true, i also directly headed to his system specs to see what brand it would be and i was about to post something like you, KUK.😉

no more IBMs for me:disgust:

edit typo

Powerquest Lost and Found might work. This is a discontinued program, but Powerquest gave it away as a free download before they pulled the plug, if you would like to try it let me know. It is a 3.5MB file.

<< none of my dick utilitys let me do any thing >>

Looks like you need to go out and buy updated dick utilities. 😛
Sorry, I know it is just a typo. The funniest one I've read is when someone typed "heavy dick access." hehehehehehe.🙂

no, im still trying to get a hold of the software 🙁

I have so many files i lost it makes me sick. All my stuff :disgust:

PQ Lost & Found is one i used to save my stuff time and again. as long as drive is still working there is a chance you can recover your stuff. i got one drive i had to send out that has smart drive failure. person i sent it to is trying to save my stuff now 🙁 . i have since gotten a dvdram drive to save my stuff to

Jen

sh!t, it sounded as if you got away without too much harm.
what's the problem now, didn't you receive the tool, or what ?

you could also try NORTON DISK DOCTOR from NORTON UTILITIES. saved me once when i formatted and partitioned the wrong harddisk. i was impressed at that time. i guess the important point is that no new data is written to the space were the lost files are.

good luck

im having troubles getting anything that works with the NTFS file system 🙁

Ill try norton too 🙂

thanks everyone. this is kinda tramatic 😱

Last week, my secondary Maxtor drive was wiped. The BIOS detected the drive as "deleted by hax0r" (serious!). Anyway, I ended up low-leveling the hard drive to be able to use it again.
