I have an old computer I am planing on using as a Linux unit, mainly to play music. I have a Diamond Max 33g hard drive I am using. I tried a couple of installs of Puppy Linux to the hard drive and somehow got things messed up. I fdsk'd it and removed the non-DOS partitions but I still got a Grub error on boot up. Did some research and it looked like this was written to the boot sector.

Did more research and tried various methods without success. I had a copy of Ranish and thought I'd go that route. I found some directions to reset the MBR and zero out the drive. After I did that the Maxtor Ultra 100 card I have it attached to no longer recognized the drive -- it just hung at the detection screen. I downloaded the MAX utilities and ran a scan of the drive and it reports CAA19678 error drive failing.

Did using Ransih cause this?

I checked the warranty and it expired just over two months ago.... BAH!
