My company has been saving hard drive each time machines are thrown out for a few years now. We've got a few hundred hard drives that need erased and disposed of. Anyone got a slick way to do this other than by hand putting each into a computer and doing a low level format. If I need hardware I can purchase it.

I was looking at http://www.veritysystems.com/d...rs/degausser.asp?id=30 but for roughly 3k (found the device on another site for 3k) I can get a lot of assistant hours erasing drives by hand.

Thanks a lot!

Degaussers are uncertain.
You have to test each drive after the degauss to make sure the information is gone.

If you want the ultimate in hard drive erasure:
http://www.semshred.com/content551.html
They have the home version pictured there.
Even a video .

Give one for a christmas gift to friends :)
For the truly paranoid .

This is what the government does with used drives.
They even melt down the metal into solid blocks afterward.

Or you could just skip the shredding step and buy a kiln like those used for pottery.
Melt the drives into lumps of metal.
