Hard Drive Caddy

A Dell Latitude D6420 I-7 2640 M Laptop is being offered on EBay without a hard drive or hard drive caddy for $58.00 at the moment. This is a $350.00 value if I find a caddy.

I have the hard drive--Samsung 850 pro.. Are laptop hard drive caddy's generic or are they hard to find? Dell does not have a hard drive caddy availabile on its website.

Most laptops have custom caddies so they can fit correctly.
The 850 pro isn't a hard drive, it is a SSD, and in theory, you should be able to use velcro to hold it in place, but, it really depends on how Dell made that laptop. Pics of the spot the caddy would go would be nice.

The so called "caddy" in the Dell 6420 is only present if the optical drive is replaced by it to use a second drive. HDD or SSD makdes no difference. The same applies to Thinkpad T series. The primary drive does not usually need such an adapter. This is the one for your Dell:

Technically it is not a caddy, but a 2nd drive adapter. The actual caddies are not generic.

I have a Latitude E6430. From the pictures, they look like they have similar layouts.

The main hard drive slot has a plastic bezel with two rubber/plastic isolation arms.

It looks like the rubber isolation arms come in 7mm and 9mm sizes. My drive has the 9mm rubber rails.

The bezel part number is 0FXCRD, don't know what the number is for the rubber arms.

This video shows exactly how to replace the OS drive and caddy in the Latitude 6420. Note the big difference between the little caddy and the 2nd drive adapter.
