Hard drive cache question . . .

My Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 40gig HD is going bad. I do not need the extra storage, but going to the 80gig Seagate drive will give me 8meg of cache as opposed to 2meg. Will this make a noticeable difference in performance?

Yes, it does make a big difference in performance, especially if you don't have a lot of RAM.

Yes. Also buy the biggest HD you can afford even if you think you don't need the space right now. HD usage is one of those things that always goes up but never goes down. :)

yes noticeable different. went from a 2mb cache 80gig maxtor to my lovely WD1200JB with 8mb cache... first in the business!

Yes, but I highly recommend buying the most storage for the buck that you can afford. Buying a 80GB compare to a 200 GB is a difference of less than $20.00. Not to mention bigger capacity hdd have higher platter density, resulting in higher performance.
