I have a 40GB WD With Win XP as the Primary Master and a 840mb Maxtor with win 95 as the Primary Slave.
When I boot the comp it wants to boot to the 95 drive. I have tried putting it as secondary master and slave and the same thing happens. All I wanted to do was copy the info off the drive and then dicsconnect it so I thought I would boot into win 95 and copy over to the D: Well once up to win95 it does not show the 40GB Drive.. Its not a big problem just one that will bug me until I figure it out. I have tried using the boot menu and it boots straight past it to win 95.
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Sonic625

Did you try setting up the drives using Cable select? or is there a setting in the BIOS to force a particular drive to boot?

no, It is set on 40- Master and 800- slave
No no option in the bios for which one it boots too.. It works fine with a 13 GB drive with 98 on it.
Thanks,

Hi Sonic625,
what board are you using? if it's an older board it's bios may have the 8.4gb drive barrier where it can't detect larger HDDs. Another potential culprit is if you presumed(You probably already know this, but just in case;) ) that the WD is config for master from the factory, but it actually comes configured for "neutral storage" which is only good if it's the only drive on the cable. Hence, you'd need to reconfigure it to master to use it with another drive. Let us know how your getting on.

This seems like its a boot-loader issue more then the harddrives itself....try removing the 840 meg Win95 harddrive. Boot with just the 40 giger. Then shutdown and re-install the 840 meg HD. You might have already tried that, but it might fix your problem.
