Hard drive and compatible casing

Looking at buying a hard drive from newegg. The choices are somewhat mind boggling.

I have limited knowledge of hardware components and wondering if this particular drive would work in this particular case.

Primary purpose will be to house my growing mp3, audiobooks and digital photos. From my understanding I should be able to connect via usb 2 and configure the hard drive for network sharing.

external case

seagate
or this western digital
Thanks for your comments

The units you mentioned are compatible except you have to build the two together. It's not that hard. But if you want you can buy a pre-built unit with both a hdd and an enclosure put together. You might want to reconsider the size of the hdd since the cheapest you can buy right now $/GB is in the 200-250 GB size.

Valid point Jiggz.

Viper, I looked at the Hitachi you suggested, but the customer reviews were poor. It seems a large proportion of neweggians had problems with that drive.

edit: I chose the casing for the lights 😉 Is there any reason why you prefer the vantec over the one I selected?

Actually if you read the other reviews, and not just the most recent ones posted, most people gave it better ratings. The average was 4/5 stars by consumers. Only 3 of the 2 dozen reviewers rated it less than 4 or 5 stars.
