I'm beginning to run out of hard drive space (I'm using 2 hd's now), so I'm thinking about getting another drive. If I take my older 18 gig western digital drive and hook it up with my cd drive will it work. I was planning on using the hd for mp3's only so it doesn't need to be fast, but what would happen to my cd-drive?

TIA

It would work fine, just make sure you set the master/slave jumpers on the cd-rom and hard drive.

For quite some time I had my IBM Deskkstar on the primary of IDE1 and my CD Rom on IDE2 as master and a removeable hdd rack as slave. (I used the rack for backup) When I built my new system, I put 2 racks on IDE1, and a DVD rom on IDE2. Now I boot to different oses on the master rack and use the slave rack for backup. All still works fine. FWIW :)
