Hard Drive Advice Needed

I'm looking for a used hard drive to put into my system, and basically it's been narrowed down to either a 30gb or 45gb IBM 75GXP, or a 40gb or 60gb Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60. They're all about 1.5-2 years old. Can anybody give me any advice, and and pro's or con's of each drive? I've heard of problems with the 75GXP, but I'm not sure how common it is. I also heard that if you do have a problem with the 75GXP, when you RMA it, IBM will replace it with a better drive, like the 120GXP. Not sure if there's any truth to this. Any help would be appreciated.

Do Not get the 75GXP and if you do there is no guarentee that it will be replaced with a better drive. it's a crap shoot, some get the same model back.
Maxtor between the 2

Reliability problems with the IBM 75GXP have dogged IBM over the years and now have sold it's Hard Drive business. The Maxtor DiamondMax 60 is a fast but noisy drive. After owning both of the drives for a while, I would have to say Maxtor edges out IBM if you are buying an older used drive. My only gripe about the Maxtor is it's noisy and whiney, if you could get a Seagate Barracuda IV that would be a great balance between performance and noise.

maxtor is not bad, how much are you gonna pay?

the biggest performance issue on HDD's is the disk cache (2mb or 8 mb) and the speed (5400RPM or 7200RPM)

personally i wouldnt get an IBM (DEATHstar)

Well, I'm not straight up buying it. I'm trading a 36gb U160 Ultrastar for an IDE drive, and the offers I've gotten have been for the mentioned drives. A little cash might be included in the deal coming my way, but we haven't agreed on anything yet, because I'm not sure which one I'm going to persue. As far as I know, all the drives are 2MB cache (is 2MB really that bad?), and 7200rpm. I believe with the 45gb 75GXP and the 60GB Maxtor, the people want straight up trades, but with the other drives (30gb 75GXP and 40GB Maxtor), they would include come cash

Well I asked one of the people offering the 30GB 75GXP about the problems. He says his works fine and that he thinks most of the problem drives were manufactured in Hungary whereas his are manufactured in Singapore and Thailand. Is there any truth to this? Also, if I go Maxtor, how are the Maxtor D740 drives? I got an offer of a 40gb D740 (D740-6L?). Are they better than the DiamondMax Plus 60's?
