Hi,

I think my hard disk has just packed it in so I'm looking for a replacement ASAP. Looking at reviews I think i'll either go for a WD Caviar WD2000BB/JB, or a IBM/Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 .

I was wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions about them. Firstly do HD manufacturers no longer give out warranties? No where I seem to look sells non-OEM drives!?!

Secondly are IBM "Deathstar's" ok now after their pretty awful history? It seemed to get a pretty good review on storagereview.

Thanks

I've used IBM disks for 4 years, begining with the Deskstar 75 GXP and later the 60 GXP and never had a problem with them. I'm currently using 2 SATA 7K250s in a RAID0 configuration and love the performance. I'd recommend these drives highly to anyone.

From what I understand, all drives come with a warranty. I bought my drives OEM from ZipZoomFly and know that they're also available on Newegg, in the OEM flavor.

Here's a review of the 7k250.

Thanks.

Anyone know if they've actually fixed the hard drive corruption issue? I remember there was a big thing a while back with them saying you should only use your HD for a few hours a day or something, which is obviously unrealisitc.
