Hard disk not detected during MCE 2005 setup...

Sorry for posting in two forums... It's just this is really bugging me

When I boot from the first of 2 CDs to setup XP Media Center Edition 2005, it says no hard drives are detected, and forces the setup process to end. I ran the diagnostic thingy from BIOS for the hard drive which reported no faults, and of course the hard drive seems to be working perfectly since I can still boot from the hard disk and do everything I usually do.

I then thought I'd try booting from my XP Home Edition CD, which DOES detect the hard drive. I'm very confused. Any ideas what may be causing this?

If it helps I'm running one SATA drive on a Dell Dimension 8400.

Is your Win XP Home cd from Dell? If so, the reason it works is because it's Dell's cd image. You need to load the SATA drivers for you SATA Controller before you can set up MCE. Just get a floppy disk, put the driver on there, and Press F6 when it asks you if you have any 3rd party drivers to install, then seelct the driver and install it. Then you can format the drive and install MCE.

Excellent! I'll try that, thanks a lot.

I've looked on the dell website and i can't find a sata driver on there... Any ideas?

Other thing is I don't have a floppy drive, will a CD do? Or a USB drive?

(I'm still a bit new to this kinda thing!)
