Someone I know likes to have a lot of storage capacity available.  At the moment he has a dual docking bay which is connected to his computer via USB 3.0, which works well enough (he typically has 2 disks connected simultaneously, 3TB and 2TB).  Both are Seagate.  The docking bay is ICY-BOX.
However, he has an extra 2TB disk, a Samsung, which doesn't work in that bay allegedly but definitely does work in another one which he bought, a Thermaltake BlacX dual-docking bay with an eSATA interface and USB 2.0. A further however is that neither of the previously mentioned two Seagate drives work in the Thermaltake at all. One allegedly wants a new disk signature written to it and the other asks to be formatted.
I've tried out some lower capacity disks in the Thermaltake including a Seagate 500GB, and both slots in the Thermaltake work fine, as does having both disks connected to it via eSATA.
I'm wondering whether other people have had similar issues with enclosures/docking bays and high capacity disks.
FWIW, OS is Win7 HP 64 SP1 with all updates. I also tried various eSATA drivers including the Windows standard AHCI SATA driver for the eSATA interface but it made no difference. Also, in the BIOS when the eSATA interface announces itself, when I had the 2TB Seagate connected it didn't list it. I didn't check what it said for the 3TB but that was enough to convince me that it wasn't a bizarre Windows/driver problem.
