Hi

Does anyone know if Win Me detects the hard disk correctly. Because I have a IBM 75GXP 30 GB hard disk, but in the system configuration it says that it's a Generic IDE Disk Type46 and the DMA box wasn't even checked. Surely this has to be checked to enable UDMA or what??
I have a friend with a Quantum drive and his system does recoqnize his disk as a Quantum?? I think he runs Win Me, too.
Can anybody help??

I don't know how those things work under WinME since I don't run it, but what you've got is perfectly normal for win98 at least (ie it doesn't surprise me that you get it in WinME since that also is win9x;)) Just enable the DMA and test your drive, I would be surprised if you didn't get the speed that you're supposed too... Who care's what windows says that the drive is as long as it works like it should eh?

Good luck

Ok, thanks for the help.
I was just curious, though, and wanted to be sure that windows was using the drive in the best way, and yeah it doesn't really matter if windows says if it's an IBM drive.
I just think it's weird because it was pure coincidence that I found out the DMA box wasn't checked. I first found out that DMA wasn't enabled for my Aopen cdrom, so I just looked to see if it was enabled for the hard disk.
I think some users don't check these things and just thinks that windows sets up everything automatically. And then they don't really get the most out of their drives. I mean, I had the drive for a couple of weeks without knowing about the settings.
I guess that kinda sucks..
