Hard Crash

Every once and a while (about once a week), my computer will go to a black screen, and restart. When it goes to a black screen it makes a horrible crashing noise (it seems to happen most often when I am playing loud music). I think this may be caused by my hard drive getting shaken too much by my subwoofer...is that possible? Are there other possible causes?

heh..it could be. When i bump my computer on accident, it does this.

I guess just tighten the HDD in secure w/ the case. Run scandisk, and defrag.

Other sources can be ram. Just to makesure, use memtest86

i had a memory problem with one of my original sticks, but i replaced it and ran memtest for about 4 hours without any errors...so i dont think its memory. also, temps look fine. (42 C for 2500+ and 28c case). perhaps I should look into getting some rubber washers?

dang you must play insanely loud music w/ insane bass 😛

try doing normal computing w/o music for a week to see if it happens again. If this random reboot continues, your hdd can die

What sub and how close is it? Do you leave your computer on 24/7
Its a Logitech Z-560 (very, very powerful), and it is about 6-8 feet away from my computer. No I don't leave my computer on 24/7--I almost always turn it off from about 1:30AM to 10AM, and reboot sporadically throughout the day.
