Never could figure that out...it always says 5 minutes in boiling water, but they're always soupy in the middle. I always sacrifice one to see if they're done :)

yeah.. that too. i generally empty the hot water and put them in some cold water, followed by a couple handfulls of ice cubes.

not sure if you know this, but one trick is to put the eggs in the water while it is boiling to minimize cracking.

easy.

Put the eggs in the room temp. water, put on stove. Wait till water is boiling, once it starts, turn it down to simmer, and put timer on 10 minutes. They will be done then.

10-15 for a soft boil (depends on how soft you like it) and 20 for a very hard boiled egg (best length of time for putting on salads and stuff). Cooking varies based on elevation, my times are for about 4-5000 ft.

not sure about the atmospheric pressure thing,
but for me in Missouri, it takes only 4 minutes to cook a small egg after the water boils (so that the yellow is still kinda soggy, which I love). for a hard boil, I reckon it would only take 7-8 min.

I did them about 12 mins and the yokes were still a little soft for my egg salad, but my wife and I will eat all that I made for lunch, so it's not a huge deal. Thanks for the help. :)

1. Bring the water to a boil
2. Dump in the eggs
3. Turn the heat off the burner (leave the pot on the burner though)
4. In 10-12 minutes you have perfect eggs

I'll have to try it this way next time. I had started w/ the eggs in the cold water and then brought them to boil and took them out about 15 mins after boiling.

put room temperature eggs in straight out of tap cold water, bring to boil then remove from heat and cover for 20 mins... then take eggs and shock them with ice water for 5 minutes... perfectly boiled eggs
