really has no reason to leave Stanford for Michigan. only reason to leave would be to go to the NFL.

Yeah, I don't buy that. There are 5 NFL openings every single year. The opportunity to coach Michigan, as an alum, is a once-in-a-lifetime type thing. If he wants it, this is his shot. As much as I hate Michigan, I'd do it in a heartbeat if I were him.

But hey, he's got a family and obviously that comes first. There's been some talk about is wife wanting to stay in Cali or something. Best of luck to him.

Supposedly the Dolphins are chasing after him.

The Niners are going after him too. I hope both he and Luck stay at Stanford and go for the National Title. Doubt that will happen

if the labor situation doesn't improve they may both stay.

does les miles go to michigan now?

heck, i just heard bo pellini might go to michigan

No reason for Harbaugh to go to Michigan. The players at Stanford are better than at Michigan right now. The players at Stanford fit his system and it won't take 3 years to get RichRod's spread recruits out the door. Stanford has better academics, which means smarter players. Palo Alto is much better QOL than Ann Arbor. Stanford fan won't be screaming for his head if they lose 1 game. Harbaugh has the opportunity to turn Stanford into a real power. Other than the alumni factor there's really no reason to leave LSJU for UM. Now the NFL, that's a different story...

Lets leave sunny California to go to Michigan! Who in the hell would want to do that?

Because he's a "Michigan Man".

Glad he's not going to Michigan though - the utter fail that has been Michigan Football with Rich Rod is too good to ruin.

I was going to agree with you that as a coach and Michigan alum there's probably no bigger job for him.

However then this point was made and I think won the argument.

Yeah the odds are 99% of the players from any team not making it in the pros so if you are good and intelligent you might as well opt for a million dollar education instead of a so so one at a Big Ten School (by so so I mean compared to Stanford)

It could be that he knows that job will be available should he fail in the NFL. Why not take a chance and coach up the big boys? He may think of Michigan as his fallback option.

Well, it's gonna be complicated...but Harbaugh will land up coaching the Broncos. It won't happen until a blockbuster trade of Tim Tebow to the Carolina Panthers for the number one draft pick happens. Then Andrew Luck will be drafted by the Broncos and Harbaugh will complete the dream scenario.

It's been apparent that he's holding out for an NFL job, even if there are 5 every year... one hasn't fallen into his lap yet. Maybe he's sick of recruiting 24/7/365 like a lot of NCAA coaches get.

He has every reason to leave Stanford for Mich. Much greater fan base/support, recruiting on a whole different level nationally, etc. Jim had actually verbally agreed to coach at Michigan prior to the New Year at which point things fell apart. Heavy NFL interest, huge dollars being thrown at him, and a realization that he wanted a Lombardi trophy more than a Rose Bowl trophy being the main reasons why.
