We've had a fantastic spring. So far, plenty of rain and few days in the 90s. The normal is 90 by mid march, ftl.

It's the longest day outside the tropics from what I wikied. And the poles too I think.

It rained heavily just an hour ago. Everything is wet. Feelings like a crappy summer to me.

Glad we peaked. It was tough getting the kids to bed while it was still light out. By end of July it should be enough.

I agree. Even had a snow storm in May for crying out loud here in Missouri. I want my Spring back darn it! Went from frigid to hot and humid within the span of a couple of weeks.

I'm traveling right now so I'm kind of bummed about not being home for the solstice. I wanted to try out the fresnel lens today. My wife was melting silver with it last week and she inadvertently melted a bit of the asbestos tile the crucible was resting upon. That puts the output at 2700F+ (1500C+).

It's the longest day outside the tropics from what I wikied. And the poles too I think.

the tropics have relatively consistent day lengths. day lengths vary the more north/south of the equator you are. and the disparity increases more rapidly the further away you get.

ex: houston is approximately 29 degrees north. today, here, sunrise to sundown is 14 hours and 2 minutes. chicago is approximately 42 degrees north, and its day is 15 hours and 13 minutes. edmonton is about 53 degrees north, and its day is 16 hours and 59 minutes. anchorage is 61 degrees north, and today is 19 hours and 22 minutes.

so, the first 13 degrees there only added about an hour and 10 minutes. the next 11 degrees added an hour and 45 minutes, and then another 8 degrees added more than 2 hours and 20 minutes.

going the other way, melbourne is about 37 degrees south and its day is 10 h and 31 minutes.

Damn, time is going by too fast. It feels like summer did not really start, yet it's about 1/3 over already. I'm hoping we get a nice September to make up for the fact that winter dragged on forever.

We do have a heat wave warning for Sunday though. Temps are going to be going up in like the 30's.

Out of curiosity, what's everyone's sunrise/sunset at today?

Sunrise: 5:23
Sunset: 21:31

Not sure what point is considered set/rise though, as it does start to get bright around 4am or so and even at 10pm you can slightly still see brightness in the sky.

Guessing when the sun first breaks the horizon and last disappears over the other horizon. What you see prior to that is from sun light diffusing in the atmosphere.

But it's only 1 PM. :hmm:

So you live here now? permanently?

No, honey. I am here only for the summer. I am interning for a big name company out in Oak Brook. So far the internship is going well, if I leave a good enough impression I will probably be asked back.

We will see how it goes.

Sunrise: 4:20 AM
Sunset: 11:42 PM

Oh and as of today, we will start losing daylight...
