To be accurate, Memorial Day is a day set aside to honor our service members who gave their lives in service to their country. This link will further explain it:

I thank you, as I'm sure all other living vets do, for your kind thoughts. Our day, however, is Veteran's Day.

May God bless all of our brothers and sisters who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may all be free to bitch and moan about how hard our lives are.
