Happy Juneteenth!

Happy Juneteenth! I didn't get around to putting up my Juneteenth garden flag until this past Friday, so I think I'll leave it up for a little while after.

As a member of a former slave-owning family, I figure it's the least I can do.

I've been thinking that myself :^D I absolutely despise that name, and it grates on my nerves every time I hear it.

I'm afraid I don't have a garden so this is about the best I can do! 😉

I think it's so fascinating that people have such opposite reactions to the name. I absolutely love that name and is a big reason for even bothering with the holiday. I have to go back at least 4 generations to find anyone who was still alive in the late 1800's.

I'm not sure precisely where the name comes from (aside from the obvious) but if I had to guess, I would say it creates the perfect excuse to celebrate from 13th through the 19th - you know, just incase the 19th happens to fall on another holiday like, I don't know, pride month, father's day, take your pick. 🙂
