Happy Endings?

I was considering taking this to P&N but decided to stay here.

So anyway, I was watching Shark Tale with my family and it struck me how completely unrealistic the ending was. For those of you who didn't catch it, there were 3 basic storylines. First, there's Will Smith as a butt-ugly fish who lies to everybody and screws over some fish who's infatuated with him. Then there's this shark who is a vegetarian (homosexual?) and gets rejected by all. And finally there's the shark mob, who's head is the dad of the gay shark and has his other (normal) son die, and naturally wants revenge.

So in the end, Smith tells the truth and everybody (including the fish) love him now; the mob boss learns to love his odd son, and also makes some peace pact with all the other fish.

So what do you guys think of this? Is it good for kids to only see these perfect Hollywood endings in the hopes they'll try to realize them when they grow up? Or is completely worthless?

That movie got a 34% at rotten tomatoes. Finding Nemo got a 99%. Shrek 2 got a 90%.

How about you stop showing your kids really crappy movies, and then you can discuss the endings of the decent ones 🙂

Movies are known to be one of the best forms of escape from reality. While the occasional "real" movie is appreciated, I think a lot of people really just want 2 hours to enjoy themselves, especially kids.

I was just using this ending as an example for all movies that have unrealistically happy endings.

If you rely on movies to teach your children about reality then your kids have much bigger problems than the fact that hollywood doesn't produce documentaries.

As long as they like the movie, I guess I'd have no problem. Even I thought a lot of endings sucked as a little kid, and I'm sure they may not realize wtf was happening anyway, I know I was too young to understand what happened to Bambi's mom when I first watched it, so it didn't affect me at all.

So you're criticizing an unrealistic ending in a movie that involves talking sharks, jellyfish, crustaceans, etc, which also involves a whale wash??
